Will magnets stick to all vehicle surfaces?

No. Magnets adhere to vehicle panels made from ferrous (iron-containing) metals. While most cars have steel bodies and chassis that are magnet-receptive, newer models may contain fiberglass, carbon fiber, molded plastics or aluminum alloys. Magnets will not stick to these surfaces. Likewise, magnets may be unusable if your vehicle has undergone extensive bodywork. Damaged auto surfaces are commonly repaired with Bondo® Plastic Metal, a non-magnetic polyester putty.

Unsure whether a vehicle’s surface is made from ferrous metal or has undergone repairs? Before ordering your car magnet, test for adhesion using a scent container that has a magnet attached or a kitchen magnet from your refrigerator.
